The Story of ISKCON Stouffville
Our Journey
Humble Beginnings
The seeds of ISKCON Stouffville were sown not in grand halls, but in the living rooms of local families. Inspired by the teachings of His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, a small group gathered for Satsangs, Kirtan, and study of the Bhagavad-gita.
United by a desire to serve the York Region community and create a spiritual home, these early devotees laid the foundation for what would become a recognized ISKCON chapter.
Cultivating Community
As Stouffville grew, so did our congregation, evolving from small home gatherings to community events at venues like Latcham Hall and Memorial Park.
A pivotal milestone was the launch of the Stouffville Chariot Festival (Ratha Yatra). What began as a vision became a cherished annual tradition within the Stouffville Celebrates series, welcoming thousands to experience kirtan, dance, and the “Feast of Love.”
A Vibrant Present
Today, ISKCON Stouffville is more than just a spiritual center; it is a family. Our history is defined by the dedicated service of our volunteers and the warmth of the Whitchurch-Stouffville community.
Over the years, our programs have expanded to include:
Small group gatherings for spiritual study and support.
Nurturing the next generation with Vedic values.
Building bridges with local civic leaders and other faith groups.
Love and care for seniors in care homes and hospitals.
While we have grown from a handful of seekers to a thriving community, our core mission has never wavered: to share the peace, unity, and spiritual joy of Krishna Consciousness with every soul in Stouffville.
Our Mission
A Worldwide Movement
About ISKCON
The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), also known as the Hare Krishna movement, was founded in 1966 in New York City by Srila Prabhupada. Rooted in the ancient Bhakti-yoga tradition of India, ISKCON has grown to encompass more than 600 temples, centres, and communities worldwide.
The Hare Krishna movement teaches the practice of bhakti — devotional service to God — through chanting the holy names, studying sacred texts, and offering loving service. Its philosophy is drawn from the Bhagavad Gita and Srimad Bhagavatam, two of the most widely-read spiritual texts in the world.
